O Friend

O Friend,
that Love (which moves in stillness
so that when one becomes aware of its presence
one realizes it is all around
like a jungle heat)
has spoken to me.
That Love has tripped me up
so that I lost my way
and had to seek out guidance just to figure out where I was.
That Love has brought me home
has brought me through death
has brought me into life.

I am struggling everyday
and my brow is beginning to crease.
Something reaffirms
and transforms
- shakes like tropical thunder
so that I become something new
and awkward
and uncomfortable as a foal's first steps.
Why do I continue to fight it?

Over the fence and what do I see
the grasses in the field waving back at me
the beauty of the earth reflected in the sunset skies
What sound is this, oh tell me what voice
speaking out my name, cause me to rejoice
look on me with favor, from the depths of your diamond eyes

Call me by my name, I take thee at thy word
Call me but love and I'm forever yours

Sweet is the sound of your voice's call
like honeysuckle vine growing up my wall
like the yellow in the daisy, violet in the blazing-star
You're gentle like the wind and it kissed my face
I can't help but smile when I walk these days
Speak to me of peace, sing to me of who you are
